Pengzhou 13MW hydropower hydroelectricity hydrogen production Technology Innovation Demonstration project is not only one of ten demonstration projects of HChina Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., but also a key project of Chengdu city to build a national demonstration city of hydrogen energy industry and a green hydrogen capital. It is also the first large-scale hydropower hydroelectricity hydrogen production project in southwest China. The project is located in the hydrogen source industrial park in Chengdu's hydrogen energy industry development plan -- Chengdu New Materials Industrial functional Zone, covering a total area of 32 mu, with a designed annual output of 1,860 tons of hydrogen.

In the project, Huaneng Clean Energy Institute, with Sichuan Hydrogen Energy Company and Cockerill Jingli Hydrogen, solved engineering amplification problems such as structural design of large electrolytic cell, electric-heat-mass integrated coupling, and high-precision assembly, and carried out multi-dimensional innovation in the research and development of key technologies of large ultra-high current density/medium pressure alkaline water electrolytic cell, as well as the whole system assembly and integration. The rated hydrogen production of pressure cell is increased by 1300 Nm3/h, up to 1500 Nm3/h, and the hydrogen production capacity of single cell is the largest in the world. At the same time, the cell has 20%-115% broadband tuning capacity for hydrogen production, showing great potential in absorbing fluctuating renewable energy.

By optimizing the performance of core materials, Cockerill Jingli Hydrogen for the first time increased the current density of commercial alkaline electrolytic cell to 6000A/㎡, and reduced the DC energy consumption of electrolytic hydrogen production to 4.2kWh /Nm3, which is significantly better than the national level 1 energy efficiency standard for large electrolytic cells. While the capacity and efficiency of the electrolytic cell are improved, the volume capacity ratio remains the smallest in China. Compared with the same grade equipment, the volume of this set of equipment is reduced by more than one third. If applied to large-scale hydrogen production projects, unit capacity equipment investment can be reduced by 25%, laying a solid foundation for green hydrogen parity road. It indicated that China had mastered the key technology of high performance large-scale electrolytic hydrogen production equipment, and took a solid step toward the direction of large-scale "green hydrogen" preparation, which had a milestone significance for the development of hydrogen energy industry.
